International Immunology publishes a broad range of experimental and theoretical studies in molecular and cellular immunology conducted in laboratories throughout the world.

Article collections

As a prelude to the 14th International Congress of Immunology to be held in Kobe, Japan, in 2010, prominent researchers in Japan review the history of research activities in various research fields in Japan and also update recent progress in those topics worldwide.

This series of articles on Immunology in Japan will appear in the journal throughout 2009 and 2010.

Gfi1 suppresses Th17 differentiation

Yoshimura and colleagues (p. 881) show that growth factor independent 1 transcription repressor (Gfi1) is reduced in Th17 cells (and inducible regulatory T cells) but upregulated in Th1 and Th2 cells. Gfi1 is repressed by transforming growth factor B but enhanced by IFN-y or IL-4. The authors conclude that Gfi1 is a novel negative regulator of Th17 cell differentiation.
